This time last year, all of us were planning our resolutions for it was not only going to be the start of a new year but also the start of a new decade. And then came along 2020, which has been the mother of all years in recent history! Although starting off with the Australian bush fires & fear of a third world war was worrying enough, nothing could have prepared us for what was to follow – Coronavirus or Covid!
But humans are not ones to be defeated so easily; we tend to find the silver lining in every cloud. Unsurprisingly the global lockdown & stay-at-home orders were driving everyone crazy, but people did find ways to stay entertained & pass the time.
Top 5 Trends of 2020
Cooking With all dine out options shut & no way to Swiggy food, people took to the kitchens & discovered their inner Masterchef. From baking breads & cakes to preparing homemade versions of their favorite street food, & also the lockdown special Dalgona coffee, they posted pictures & also quick recipes online to share with everyone. Deliciously consumable trends took over social media like wildfire.
Home Workouts Being stuck at home also meant people were not getting any form of workout done. Gymnasiums shut down, but training sessions went virtual. People also encouraged each other to keep up with their fitness routines by nominating each other for challenges such as the #PlankChallenge, #100SkippingChallenge, #NoEquipmentWorkout, etc.
Zoom Lockdown shut offices & people were forced to work from their homes. Video-conferencing app Zoom became the most downloaded app & was used by almost every single person. While it started out as an app used by companies, it quickly progressed onto helping people connect with friends & families to have virtual reunions, while many even got married while live streaming it over Zoom!
Online Shopping Since all retail establishments were shut due to the lockdown, all forms of shopping went digital. From buying groceries to indulging in a little virtual retail therapy, Covid-19 changed the way India shops!
Mask Fashion Face masks were made compulsory at the onset of the lockdown globally. Initially, we bought simple surgical or N95 masks for their utility. But with no clear picture of how long we need to mask-up, this essential accessory soon became a fashion statement with brands jumping at the opportunity to make them more stylish. These masks were also made reusable thereby reducing the extra trash generated due to the disposable masks. This taught us that safety can be fashionable while also being functional.
